CHAPTER 2 – THE CONFLICT OF IMAGES

Following suit from Chapter 1 – The Hierarchy of Images, Chapter 2 – The Conflict of Images acts as a catalogue and a collection of essays emerging from the exhibitions that Nicolò Degiorgis and Sabine Gamper curated at foto-forum (Bolzano/Bozen).

The texts critically engage with the cultural norms of documentary photography. As the title itself suggests, the book aims to achieve more than just a showcase of the different approaches and practices existing within the broad field of documentary war photography. Rather, The Conflict of Images investigates the intrinsic conflict underlying the image-making practice that focuses on themes of suffering and pain. Raphael Dallaporta, Giorgio Di Noto and Monica Haller demonstrate to be acquainted with the issues caused by today’s image-overflow as well as with the ethic and aesthetic debates around the same topic.
